Q: What is the number one thing you think can help strengthen an agency's relationship with a client?

"Really listening. It might sound like a cliche but so many agencies go to a client with preconceived ideas. They need to listen to what the client actually needs. This isn't about ego or creativity for creativity's sake. It's about helping your client meet a business need. 

"But if I can sneak in a second thing, which follows on, I'd also say being able to challenge the client is vital too. Sometimes a client wants something but you know it won't help them meet their end goal. Experience comes in handy here as you have to be confident in what you're proposing. The client may not always like being challenged, and it can be uncomfortable, but it should never be confrontational. And they will appreciate it in the long run - your expertise is why they hired you. You're both on the same team at the end of the day, so it's of benefit to both parties for things to go well."
